
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul Presbyterian Church Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 3:00p.m.
Mr. Campbell was born August 6, 1922 in Belton, Missouri. He was a graduate of the University of Missouri with a bachelors in Finance and Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary with a Master’s Degree of Divinity. He was chairman of outreach and a National Service officer of American Ex-Prisoner’s of War. He served as pastor at
First Presbyterian Church, Ballinger, Texas from 1959 until 1965, Highland Presbyterian Church, Tyler, Texas from 1965 until 1972, Presbytery of Northeast Texas and Dallas, Texas as Evangelism Associate and then Pastor of St. Paul Presbyterian Church, San Angelo, Texas from 1973 until 1988. After retirement he also served as interim pastor at Church of the Good Shepherd, Sonora, Texas and First Presbyterian Churches in Ft. Davis and Marfa, Texas.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force as a navigator on a B-17 bomber. He was shot down on his 21st. mission over Holland and was a German POW until liberated by Patton’s army at the end of WW II.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Peggy Cochran Campbell, his daughter, Peggy King and husband Milton of Burleson, Texas, son, Lee Campbell and wife Lisa of San Angelo, Texas and daughter, Ann Gholami and husband Ahmad of Highland Village, Texas. He is also survived by grandchildren Erin Contreras and husband Michael of San Angelo, Robin Chester and wife Liz of Ft. Worth, Texas, Ryan Chester and wife Jackie of Ft. Sill, OK, Joshua Johnson Campbell and wife Daryll of San Diego, CA, Adam Boedeker and wife Maureen of Corinth, Texas and Alexandra Gholami of San Antonio, Texas as well as nine great-grand children and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Powell and the staff on the fourth and fifth floors of Shannon Hospital and Dr. Johnny French, long time family doctor and friend for their loving care of Fred. Matthew 25:21 “His master said to him, ‘Well done good and faithful servant’”.
In lieu of flowers, any memorial may be made to St. Paul Presbyterian Church, San Angelo, TX or donations can be made to the Concho Valley Ex-POW Association in care of Stella Webb, 218 C.R. 459, Ballinger, TX 76821.
