Gregory John Sercos, 42, was born on February 17, 1984, and passed away on August 8, 2026. Though his time on this earth was far too short, Greg lived a life filled with passion, laughter, friendship, family, and love. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Memorial Service is scheduled for 10:00am Monday, August 17, 2026 at Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel.
Greg was born to Louis Navarro Sercos and Ida Sandoval Sercos. He was one of four children, growing up alongside his brothers, Louis and Pete, and his sister, Dana.
As a young boy, Greg loved baseball. He played for Northern Little League, and years later, his love for the game continued when he became a coach for his son’s team, The Pirates. Coaching gave Greg the opportunity to share his love of baseball with the next generation, and he cherished every moment.
As a teenager, Greg found another passion through hip-hop and became part of a group of B-boys known as GroundHopper Grasshopperz, which started at The House of Faith. Greg and the boys made it to B-Boy City several times, creating memories and friendships that stayed with him throughout his life.
As a young adult, Greg discovered another love that would become a lifelong passion: cooking. He admired chefs such as Anthony Bourdain and Thomas Colicchio and began his culinary journey as a dishwasher at Royal Estate. Greg quickly proved that he had a natural talent and passion for the kitchen, learning from Chef Willie Davidson and Chef Justin Siler. Through hard work and dedication, he eventually became a sous chef, working alongside Executive Chef Larry Lambert and Chef Chad Lowry.
For Greg, cooking wasn’t simply a job—it was a way of expressing himself and bringing people together. He poured his heart into everything he cooked.
Greg married the love of his life, Pamela Guerrero, and together they built a beautiful family with their children, Rheanna Athena and Gregory Benjamin. Being a father was one of Greg’s greatest joys.
Some of Greg’s favorite memories were made with his children. He loved taking them fishing, watching the latest Marvel movies with them, and, of course, cooking for them. His kids loved visiting Dad at work because they knew they were going to get something good to eat—and probably some ice cream, too.
In the early 2000s, Greg’s father-in-law, Candy, took him to his very first BBQ competition, Texas Independence That day changed everything. From then on, Greg poured his blood, sweat, and tears into BBQ. His motto became:
“Eat. Sleep. BBQ. Repeat!”
His first BBQ team was The Backyard Boys, alongside his father-in-law and the greatest brother-in-law anyone could ask for, Daniel Rodriguez. Eventually, Greg respectfully parted ways with The Backyard Boys and took everything he loved—his passion for BBQ, his love of hip-hop, and his love of Marvel—and created Beast BBQ.
Beast BBQ became more than a BBQ team. It became a part of Greg’s identity and a place where his creativity, determination, and love for people came together. Along the way, Greg earned Grand Champion titles and countless trophies, filling a room with reminders of all his hard work and dedication.
But Greg’s greatest victories weren’t always the trophies.
Greg was always willing to help someone in need. Through Beast BBQ, he participated in numerous benefits and charitable events, including St. Mary Life Teen, Uvalde Angels with Texas Smoke, and benefits for the Fourth of July flood victims, just to name a few.
Along the way, Greg made friendships that became family—his beloved “BBQ family.” Scotty, Doc, Stephen, Smokey, Ernie, and Danielito were like brothers to him. The friendships Greg made through BBQ were some of the most meaningful relationships of his life.
Greg was also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. He loved them all dearly and was especially protective of his nieces. He shared a special bond with his nephew Logan, with whom he enjoyed their mutual love of comic books, figures, and football.
Greg will be remembered for his big heart, his determination, his humor, his love of cooking, his passion for BBQ, his love of music and Marvel, and most of all, his unwavering love for his family.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Pamela, and his children, Rheanna and Gregory Sercos; his sister, Dana Sercos; his parents-in-law, Candido and Victoria Guerrero; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Debbie and Fernando Lara, Patricia and Jerry Guerrero, April and Daniel Rodriguez, and Brandy Guerrero; and his many beloved nieces and nephews: Nyomi, Louis and Valerie Sercos, Rita, Bella and Wayne Marroquin, Iciss, Christian, Victoria, Mateo Potato, Elijah Govea, Celeste, Roland, Alaia, Nova, Carson Orantez, Savannah, Aylani, Noah Moreno, Cheyanne Lara, Brandi Lara, Amelia Ozuna Lara, Deja, Adrian, Zaylareign, Davian Hernandez, and Logan Rodriguez, along with countless extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Ida Sercos; his brothers, Pete and Luis Sercos; Francisco and Rosa Sercos; James Robert Marroquin; his beloved cat and best friend, Cody; and his two precious angel babies, whom he can finally hold in his arms.
Greg leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured by trophies, titles, or accomplishments. His greatest legacy is the love he gave—to his wife, his children, his family, his friends, and even to people he barely knew who simply needed a helping hand.
He fed people with his cooking, brought people together through BBQ, made memories through laughter and adventure, and loved his family with everything he had His hands may no longer be at the grill and his laughter may no longer fill the room, but everything Greg created, everything he taught, and everyone he loved will carry a piece of him forward.
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
