Harroll E. Clemmer
March 19, 1922 – April 21, 2021
Harroll Ennis Clemmer, 99, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2021. He is now rejoicing in heaven with his Lord and his loved ones.
Harroll was born at home on March 19, 1922 near Compere TX in Jones County, to Walter and Zella Clemmer. He grew up on the family farm and attended school at Merkel and Noodle, where he played basketball and the field.
After graduating from high school, he met Louise Dudley at The Nook in Merkel where he bought her a Coke. They were secretly married April 18, 1942 and lived apart until they told his parents three months later. After that, they never spent a night apart for 43 years until she died in August 1985. Harroll then married Ula Mae Hasty, a long-time family friend from church. Ula Mae Clemmer passed away in May 2004.
As a newly-wed Harroll worked as a farmer, certified Chevrolet mechanic, and RC Cola sales person in Monahans TX. The family moved to San Angelo in 1958, when Harroll bought the RC Cola Bottling Company. The “RC man” worked long hours to build the business to span 55 TX counties, ultimately being recognized as the top bottler in the region. Around “the plant,” he mixed beverage formulas, welded equipment, painted and repaired trucks, drove forklifts, repaired refrigeration units, and personally called on customers. Harroll used his business to help others, whether it was giving a job to someone who needed a second chance, loaning an RC truck to help someone move, or donating thousands of drinks to church events and potlucks.
After Harroll “retired,” he tried his hand at Emu farming, wood turning, and running a WICs store in San Angelo.
He was a lifelong Christian, active member of the Southgate Church of Christ and on the board of the San Angelo Christian Academy. He was devoted to the church and personally responsible for many learning about Jesus.
Harroll had few hobbies but loved making homemade ice cream, a joy he passed to his son, Sid and Sid passed to his son, Scott.
Harroll is survived by his sons Cecil (wife, Fern) of Cloudcroft NM and Dennis of San Angelo; daughters Sheila and Shelayne Clemmer of San Antonio; daughter-in-law Judy Clemmer of San Angelo; and sister-in-law Josephine Clemmer of Abilene. He was preceded in death by his eldest son Sid Clemmer of San Angelo and his siblings. Harroll is also survived by his grandchildren Stephanie (Ralph Owens); Wayne (Silvia); Shawna (Lee Eggleston); Fern (Daniel Sullivan); Sara (Tony Bushong); Sheila (Justin Owens); Scott; Patricia; Annalise (Mario Torres); and Logan; 21 beloved great grandchildren and great great grandchild Hazel, as well as many beloved step-children, step-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank our brother, Dennis, for being Dad’s compassionate care giver and companion for the past 3 1/2 years. Also, the staffs of St. Gabriel’s Hospice and Brayden Park Memory Care for their kindness and loving care during his final months.
A visitation of friends and family will be held at Johnson Funeral Home, 435 W. Beauregard, San Angelo from 5:00-7:00 pm Saturday April 24, 2021. Memorial service will be held at Southgate Church of Christ, 528 Country Club Rd, San Angelo at 2:00 pm Sunday April 25. The family will hold a private interment at Lawnhaven Memorial Garden.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to San Angelo Christian Academy via its website Donate button or mail to 518 Country Club Road, San Angelo, TX 76904.
