Harvey Keith Hale

Harvey K. Hale, 83, of Sherwood, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, in a local hospital. Family visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson's Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, in Sherwood Cemetery with Pastor Mark Smith of First United Methodist Church in Mertzon officiating. Mr. Hale was born Oct. 6, 1929, in Thurber, Texas, to Harvey and Lucille Dewitt Hale. Harvey grew up in Thurber and went to school in Strawn, Texas, graduating in 1948. Soon after graduation he went to work in the oilfields of West Texas. He entered the Army in 1951, and served in Korea. Harvey was discharged in October 1952, and went to the West Texas oilfields. In 1959, he married Bernie Ann McCrea in Kermit, Texas. Harvey remained in the Kermit area working in the oilfield and raising cows until 1998, when he and Bernie Ann moved to Mertzon to be closer to their grandson, Keith. Harvey is survived by one son, Harvey J Hale; one grandson, Keith Hale of Mertzon; one sister, Jo Ann Bearden of Mingus, Texas; and one brother, Bill Hale of Cleo Springs, Okla.
