Hugh Douglas Tucker was born November 13, 1928 (91) in Yoakum, Texas to Marvin Tucker and Elizabeth Chandler. Living in the great depression he had his first job at 9 years old sacking groceries for 10¢ at hour. His family raised chickens and sold them along with milk. They raised a garden to supply them with vegetables and hogs for meat. He graduated with 11 years of school in 1946. After that he attended Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas. He graduated with a degree in education. He then went to work for M. C. Winters Construction driving an equipment truck moving very heavy equipment. At times 40 tons of weight. Always requiring a permit.
He met Nan Massingill in Comache, Texas and they married in 1958. They had two girls, Doris Gale and Elizabeth Shawn. After their divorce he went to work for Shovel Supply Company in Dallas, Texas. He was in charge of the delivery trucks.
In 1983 he retired and moved to San Angelo/Dove Creek, Texas. He enjoyed his guns and shooting, reloading his own ammunition, woodworking, and gardening. He got bored and took a job in 1985 for William "Billy" Tankersly in Mertzon, Texas. He wore many different hats on that ranch with his favorite dog, Jake. Jake worked just as hard as he did. Jake's job was to find the irrigation water and to find the skunks and drive them to his dad.
If that wasn't enough attention Jake got from his dad he would pack off gloves, duct tape, wrenches, and anything else he thought wasn't needed at the time. When Jake was 12 he got sick and had to cross the rainbow bridge. Hugh never got over loosing that dog. He retired again in 2011. Then he went back to work at a salt water disposal plant for a few short months. In 2014 he was blessed with a great grandaughter. In 2017 he was diagnosed with cancer. At the age of 91 he was a short time resident of Regency House. Sadly he contracted COVID-19 virus and placed on hospice and he peacefully passed into the arms of his Savior Jesus Christ at Shannon hospital on July 31, 2020.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his daughters, Gale Tucker and Shawn Tucker. Two grandchildren, Katy Cunningham and Bobby Cunningham. One great grand daughter Hazeley Cunningham, the apple of his eye. Two brothers, Robert Tucker and Thomas Tucker.
