As a fellow faculty member and the TAMU Quarterback Club during the tenure of Emory Bellard, I well remember the meetings each week. RJ Hodges, Hank Mills, Jack and I usually sat at the same table along with Bob Wright, the academic counselor for the team. We had a great time. One year the Runkles invited a bunch of us to celebrate a victory in our first home game. The group gathered and as I remember had a good time, even though the Aggies were outscored in a game they were supposed to win. Jack was a very fine man, dedicated to his profession, family, friends and church. It was a pleasure to have known him and to be in his presence from time to time. Such good memories! Murray Milford

On behalf of the Staten family, I want to offer my condolences. I remember that mom and dad (Betty and Raymond Staten) spoke so fondly of Jack. Certainly dad enjoyed working with him in the Soil & Crops department. Please know that our prayers are with your family.

Dr. Runkles was a professor of mine and on my PhD committee. Above all he was a friend, an inspiration, and always offered a hand to help you up. He helped many students. But his work on water conservation for Texas and the US was a passion. I always enjoyed my visits with him because I came away encouraged. I know he adored his family and his was proud of the ranch. I admired him greatly!

Marcia and family, So sorry to hear about the loss of your father. He was an amazing man who really did very important work for water conservation in Texas. I know you will all miss him so much. May memories of the happy family times you shared help you through this journey. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Please share my condolences with your amazing daughter Stacey and her wonderful family. My son and daughter-in-law were so fortunate to have them as neighbors and dear friends when they lived in San Antonio.
