Jackie Harbin, 82, of San Angelo, passed away from this life in a local San Angelo hospital on Friday, November, 25, 2011, after fighting a courageous battle against numerous illness complications. Jackie was born in East St. Louis, Illinois on October 17,1929. She was the daughter of Eugene and Elizabeth (McCrary) Walz.
Jackie attended Belleville Junior College and continued to the University of Illinois to obtain her education degree. She taught radio at Scott Air force Base in southern Illinois and ultimately taught mathematics in East St. Louis, Phoenix, Arizona and San Angelo, Texas, specifically Edison Jr. High School. While in Phoenix she continued her education and graduated with her masters. Her purist love of mathematics and a passion for teaching inspired her to lead and assist countless students over the years.
Jackie was a loving wife and mother. She was an accomplished artists enjoying many mediums such as oils, ceramics, china painting and sewing. She loved camping and the beauty of nature. Most of all, she found pleasure in her love of animals. There was always a dog or cat in her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Charles B. Harbin. Those left to honor and cherish her memory are her son, Ward E. Harbin and daughter-in-law, Kathy Elpers of Evansville, Indiana; her daughter, Leslie H. Richardson, son-in-law, Chuck Richardson and granddaughter, Lauren E. Richardson of San Angelo, Texas.
Friends may visit from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Johnson’s Funeral Home. Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel on Beauregard in San Angelo, Texas.
