Jim was born to Paul and Doris Barnes on March 8, 1943 in Columbus, MS., both parents preceded him in death.
Jim’s greatest love was for his family. He is survived by his wife; Elaine Barnes of Christoval, TX., son; James Barnes Jr. of Augusta, Me., daughter; Catherine Griffin of Austin, Tx., grandson; Brandon Barnes of San Angelo, Tx., granddaughter; Jessica Griffin of Austin, Tx., grandson; Ryan Barnes and wife Jenna of San Angelo, Tx., great-granddaughter; Payten of San Angelo, Tx., sister; Jerri and husband B.J. McNamara of Austin, Tx., niece; Tami Skailes of Austin, Tx., as well as many dear friends and special friends John and Meriam Shelton of Christoval, Tx.
On September 17, 1962 Jim was married to the love of his life Elaine. They had two children in Massachusetts before returning to San Angelo in October 1973.
Jim loved to hunt and fish but found his true calling and inate ability in making custome knives.
Jim held a special relationship with all of his customers from Texas to New Zealand, and took great pride in perfection of every knife he made.
To many Jim will always be known as a “Man’s Man” and though that was true, he was also the most caring and loving man any of us will ever know. The joys of his life were his grandchildren, Jessica, Brandon and Ryan, and in recent years was most happy when his “ Pride and Joy” great-granddaughter Payten was sitting in his lap.
We were all so lucky to have a man like you in our lives, now we’re even more lucky to have you watching over us. We love you granddaddy.
