

James Hughes Jefferies passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026. He was born on July 24, 1989, in San Angelo, TX to Dr. John Gregory (Greg) Jefferies and Vicki Sue Jefferies. James attended San Angelo Central High School and graduated in the class of 2007. He later went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A), Energy Commerce-Petroleum Land Management degree from Texas Tech University in 2011.
James began his career as a Landman in Houston, TX working for Anadarko Petroleum and EnerVest, Ltd. He then relocated to Midland, TX to work for Endeavor Energy Resources, where he built a successful career and rose to Land Manager. James married Brittany Stegall on April 1, 2017, and collectively spent 18 years of their life together. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. John Gregory (“Greg”) Jefferies, and by his grandparents, John William (“J.W.”) Hughes Jr., Mavis Greenway Hughes, Crofton Vaughn Jefferies, and Vertis Jefferies Simpson. James is survived by his mother, Vicki Jefferies; his four siblings, John Jefferies, Randye Dunlap (Scott), Leigh Paille, and Carrie Ledet; his uncle, Randy Hughes; his aunt, Belinda Hughes; his cousins, Kelley Hughes, J. Andrew Hughes (Hope), and Kelly Singer; and his nephews, Luke Ledet, Trey Baker (AnnMarie), Clayton Hill, and Jarrett Hill (Emily).
James enjoyed spending time with friends and family, hiking, weekends at the lake house, playing golf, entertaining others with his banter and singing, and cheering on his favorite teams - Texas Tech, the Dallas Cowboys, the Dallas Mavericks, and the Texas Rangers. He was equally known for playfully rooting against everyone else’s favorites. James will be remembered as a loving, talented, intelligent, hardworking, witty, and hilarious man whose humor brought light to every situation.
The family visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm on Friday, June 5th at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 6th, at the Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
