James Parsons CMSGT USAF Retired

James (Jim) Parsons was born July 1, 1927 and went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 25, 2013. Service is at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013 at Lawnhaven Cemetery with Brother Toby Irwin of Belmore Baptist Church officiating. Jim is survived by his wife Barbara Parsons, his sons, James B. Parsons and John Parsons and his wife Gwen, his daughter Pam Callan and his sons-in-law Homer Stewart and Tom Callan and his wife Ronda, his grandson Bryce Parsons and granddaughter Meredith Parsons, his great-grandsons Zachary and Kobe Callan, and his great-granddaughter Alexia Parsons-Ramirez. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Justin Callan. Jim led a long life filled with love and adventure. At 16, he joined the Merchant Marine where he spent three years making runs back and forth across the Atlantic Ocean during World War II, and at 23, he enlisted in the Air Force. On May 31, 1952 he married Barbara Anne Bullock at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Mississippi, and they were stationed at military bases throughout the United States as well as Japan, Germany, and Greece before he retired in 1971. He earned his Ham radio operator license in his early teens, and his greatest interest was building his own equipment and operating Morse code. He was a proud member of ARMS Christian Fellowship Group (Amateur Radio Missionary Service) and the American Radio Relay League. He earned his private pilot's license in his 50's and enjoyed many hours flying his air coupe.

His greatest loves were his wife, his children and grandchildren and he will be forever missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Justin Callan scholarship fund at Howard College San Angelo. The family wishes to thank the staff at HOSA and Meadow Creek Care Center.

Aim high, CMSgt James Parsons. A good 73 to you, K5ROV. Godspeed, husband, dad, and granddad. Family and friends may sign an online guestbook at johnsons-funeralhome.com

To the Parson's Family.
I know this comes as no great surprise to you, but as a young ham radio operators (50 years ago), Jim was our inspiration. He was someone we looked up to and someone who ALWAYS had time for us kids. We learned so much about the hobby, about electronics, about fun and about life from K5ROV.
We are the Hams we are today because Jassonne Parsonne set a high standard for us and held us accountable.
Jim, we will miss you - your laugh - your incredible knowledge - and now, your silent key!
73 Jassonne Parsonne.
Joe Milam, W5UA (Midland), Bob Taylor, N5RT (Dallas), Phil White, K5PW (Brady) and countless others who Jim touched!
