OBITUARY

Janith "Jan" Van Orden Jones

October 9, 1935March 14, 2014

The lord welcomed quite a character to heaven on March 14, 2014 when Jan Jones left this world. Janith Van Orden Jones was born on October 9, 1935. She is survived by her brother, Frank Van Orden Jr., of San Francisco, California, son Michael Jones and his wife Kathy, daughter Leslie Kincade and her husband John, daughter in law Rhonda Jones, grandchildren Christopher Jones, Cameron Jones, Sean Kincade, Lucas Kincade, Eric Jones, Courtney Jones, and Camille Jones. Jan was predeceased by her son Charles Jones, Jr. Jan was born in Trinidad, Texas, and graduated from the University of Texas Nursing School. She raised her children in Fort Stockton where she had several vocations, including serving as administrator of the local nursing home and President of the Fort Stockton School Board. Jan served as school nurse at San Angelo Central High School for many years. One of Jan’s passions was spending time in Honduras, where she supported and staffed a health clinic. Jan collected thousands of pounds of medical supplies from local charities and transported them to Honduras for the treatment and care of those too poor to afford care. Many doctors and dentists joined Jan in her health mission to the people of Honduras. Jan will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday, March 18th, at Johnson's Funeral Home from 6:00PM-8:00PM. Services will be held on Wednesday, March 19th at 10:00AM at First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers please make donations to First United Methodist Church. Family and friends may sign the online register book at www.johnson-funeralhome.com.

I was an aide for her when I graduated from Central High School. She was an amazing friend. I would call her over the years and visit her often. She was a treasure to anyone who knew her. Always willing to help. We have so few angels on earth and one of them just went to heaven. I wish peace for her family and lots of love. RIP Jan, I will miss you!

Spoke to Jan last fall on phone and had a good long chat. I know her health was failing. We knew her for many years on Cayos Cochinos. She will be missed. Gae & Jim McDonald
