Jan was born November 4, 1924, in Oakland, California, to Lloyd Showers and Mabel Earsley Showers. She grew up in Medford, Oregon. Jan met and married Robert (Bob) H. Lassetter in Oregon in 1943 while he was stationed there at an Army camp during World War II. Upon his return from the European Theater, the couple moved to El Paso, Texas, and raised their three children, Jody, Cindy and Bob. The family moved to Odessa in 1964 and Bob and Jan moved to Angel Fire, NM, in 1981.
Once in Angel Fire, she enjoyed many years of skiing, hiking, and playing golf with her 9-hole group. However, her favorite pastime was painting in watercolor and she helped many a new painter discover their own love of the challenging medium. She entered art shows where she won blue ribbons and sold paintings. Her family enjoys many of the beautiful paintings she created. Jan helped spearhead the very first Angel Fire ArtsFest in the late 1980’s. Besides being active in the painting club she started, Jan was a very active volunteer at the Shuter Library. She served on the Music-From-Angel Fire board for four years and was president for two years.
Her husband of 43 years, Bob, passed away in 1986. Thanks to her brother-in-law, Stu, and sister-in-law, Martha, who lived next door she stayed on in Angel Fire, skiing and playing golf into her 70s and painting and volunteering until she moved to San Angelo, Texas in 2005 where she joined First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed bible study in the Cheers Class as well as the women’s bible group, The Morning Glories, and Grief Share.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, her mother Mabel and step father, Charlie Wiley, her father and brother, Dean (Nancy) Showers. Also preceding her were brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Roy and Anita Lassetter, Rogers and Bess Lassetter, Jean and Pete Godley, Stuart and Martha Lassetter, Shirley Smith, and niece Debby Bodenchuck. She is survived by daughter Jody Jennings (Fred) of Beeville, Texas; daughter, Cindy Lassetter of San Angelo, Texas; son, Bob Lassetter of Jones Creek, Texas; grandson, Jason Jennings (Maureen) of Austin, Texas; and nieces and nephews Jan (Mike) Mead, Suzy (Jack) Sprague, Mike Bodenchuck, Lynn (Steve) Klein, and Lori (Dave) Robinson, Denise, Steven and Bonnie Showers, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services will be held 10:00 a.m., October 21, 2023, at First Methodist Church, San Angelo with interment in the FMC columbarium. In lieu of flowers, please donate to an organization that researches cures for Dementia or charity of your choice.
