Jewell McLean Pokorny

Jewell McLean Pokorny was born December 28, 1911 in Stamford, Texas to Henry Allen McLean and Alice Weldon. She was one of seven children born to this union. Jewell passed away Sunday, November 21, 2010.

She married Raymond Victor Pokorny November 22, 1932.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Johnny, Jake and Charles McLean; her sisters Ruby Ducote, Myrtle Miles, and Opal Womack.

Jewell and Raymond had one son, John Allen Pokorny. Raymond and Jewell made their home in Odessa, Texas in 1942 where Raymond owned a trucking company. They moved to San Angelo and lived on Lake Nasworthy in 1962. They lived briefly in Del Rio before returning to San Angelo in 1979. Raymond passed away September 5, 1993 and Jewell lived by herself until February 2010 when she became ill and moved to Arbor Terrace where the folks there took such good care of her. John Allen married a second time to Shirley Rice who presented him with a ready-made family and gave Raymond and Jewell 3 grandchildren: Ronna, Carma and Blaine.

Jewell is survived by John and Shirley Pokorny of Odessa, TX, Ronna and Earl Moore of Midland, TX, Carma and George Eary of Laguna Park, TX, Blaine and Sandy Coon of Odessa, TX and John Michael and Kayme Pokorny of Minot, ND; five great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.

The Family wishes to thank Willie Alexander for her years of taking care of Jewell while she lived at home; the folks from Meals On Wheels who stopped to visit each day they delivered her meals; the nurses at Arbor Terrace and the folks from Hospice these last few months.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens at 10:30 AM. Arrangements are by Johnson’s Funeral Home. Family and friends may sign an online register book at johnsons-funeralhome.com.
