Joan Adele Guthrie

Joan Adele Guthrie of San Angelo, TX passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2023. She was born on November 17, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois to Donald Wayne and Clara Shoemaker. Joan attended Paxton High School and graduated in the class of 1957. She worked as a secretary for GTE. Joan married the love of her life James F. Guthrie on March 8, 1958 and had 2 children. She was proud member of Sierra Vista Methodist Church and had a passion for quilting, sewing, gardening, animals and taking photos of her family. Joan will always be remembered for her loving and caring for dogs and cats she had throughout the years. She was preceded in death by her husband James Franklin Guthrie; parents Donald and Clara Shoemaker; brother Donald Wayne Shoemaker; nephew Doug Shoemaker and niece Cindy Cucco (Shoemaker). Those left to cherish her memory are her children William (Bill) Rance Guthrie and Thomas Wayne Guthrie and wife Elizabeth Guthrie; brother-in-law Dennis Fuoss; grandchildren Lora Robertson and husband Luke, Ryan Markham and wife Sarah, James Guthrie and Aidan Guthrie, she is also survived by several nieces. A celebration of Joan’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 11, 2023 in Fairmount Cemetery. The family would like to thank The Springs Memory Care Team who lovingly cared for Joan in her last year, as well as Dr. Kristin Goen who provided great care.
