Joe Louis Nanny

Joe spent his younger years cowboying and breaking horses. He also made quite a name for himself as a rough-stock rider at many rodeos in the Hill Country and South Texas.

In 1942, Joe was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was sent to Ft. Riley, Kansas to be in the mounted Cavalry and quickly made his way up the ranks to Sergeant. He was honorably discharged in 1946, but the memories of his cavalry days remained vivid in his mind for the rest of his life.

Joe worked for several different ranches after the war and raised & trained many working stock dogs. In 1961, he moved his family to Barnhart to work for E.S. Mayer, Jr. Joe remained with the Mayer Ranch for well over 30 years.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, three of his sisters: Freda, Charlene and Dorthea, and his youngest son, Charles Lee Nanny.

He is survived by his former wife and the mother of his children, Yetta Lou Masters, son Henry & wife Joan Nanny of San Saba, son John & wife BJ Nanny of Barnhart, and son Roscoe Nanny of Mertzon, his sisters: Bobbie Nell Crider of Medina, Pauline Rogers of Vilonia, Arkansas and Ann Parrish of Kerrville, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Steve Mayer, Ernie Mayer, John Mayer, Cody Sawyer, Jeff Nanny and Randall Edwards.

Graveside service will be in Barnhart at 2:00 on Friday, October 11.
