John Harris took his last breath on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. John was born on April 4, 1945, to Leon and Argie Harris in Dallas, Texas. He enlisted in the Navy in 1962. He was stationed in Long Beach, Calif., on the USS Bayfield and served two tours in the Vietnam War. While on leave, he met the love of his life, Joyce Rezzlle. They married May 23, 1964. He will be remembered most by his expertise in diesel mechanics. He worked for several tractor dealerships, the one he enjoyed the most was Porter Henderson Implement Company. He met many of his closest friends while working there. His dream was to own his own company. That dream came true when he opened San Angelo Diesel Injection Services Inc., which he owned and operated for 30 years. Upon selling his company he enjoyed selling ranch real estate for Dierschke and Dierschke. He was forced to retire after being diagnosed with cancer in 2009. For the last 2-1/2 years you could find him sitting out in his barn, reading his books with his most loyal friend, Tip, and visiting with neighbors and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Argie Harris; and son Chet Dee Harris. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Marie Harris of Paint Rock; daughter Tammie Hohensee and husband Mike of Miles; Charles Harris and wife Yvonne of San Angelo; his pride and joys, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Brandon Hohensee and wife Melissa, their children, Carter and Hadley, Laryn Gibson and husband Robert Paul, their children, Taylor and Taytum, Travis Hohensee; brothers Jearl Harris, Jerry and Kay Harris, Joe and Geneva Harris; sisters Oleta and Ernest Harrel, Joyce Fay Waskom; and many nieces and nephews and friends.
