Jose "Joe" R. Garcia

Jose R. "Joe" Garcia, 84, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2016 in Bedford. He was born to the late, Calistro and Anita Munoz Rivera Garcia on February 11, 1932 in San Angelo. He served in the United States Navy from 1951 through 1959, having served during the Korean Conflict. Joe married Martha Moran in December 13, 1953 in San Diego, California. She preceded him in death on June 27, 2011. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Joe worked over 25 years with GTE/Verizon before retiring. It has been said that Joe was a family man who enjoyed spending time with not only his family, but his friends as well. As a matter of fact, he never played golf, but could often be found at the golf-course visiting others. From his love of people, it is no wonder that he always had a story to share and had the gift of laughter. He has been described as being a jokester, even up until his last moments of life. Joe will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Onesimo Garcia; and one grandson, Mike Jones.

Survivors include his children and their spouses, Leticia Garcia Harris, Joe Garcia (Yvonne), Jeannie Jones (Loel), Randy Garcia, and Lisa Garcia; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Lupe Aguirre; brother, Calistro Garcia, Jr.; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you for not only taking care of Joe but for spoiling him during his last days to the staff of La Dora Nursing Home, Bedford, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm today in the Johnson's Funeral Chapel with Deacon Jesse Aguirre officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
