June Green

June 8, 1930October 26, 2012

On October 26, 2012, our beloved June Green went to be with our Lord in heaven. Born in Dallas, Texas on June 8, 1930. She moved to El Paso in 1947, and graduated from Austin High School that same year. After attending Texas Western College (UTEP) for 2 years she transferred to Abilene Christian University and graduated in May 1951. While at Texas Western she was a member of the CHI Omega Sorority, and was a member of vocal quintet, “The Overtones.” She was also a member of the Gold Diggers Marching Squad, and rode in a float in the Sun Carnival parade for two years. While at Abilene Christian she was a member of the Caddettes Social Club and Future Teachers of America. In April 1950 she met Alton Green and enjoyed watching him play on the only undefeated football team in the nation that year. On December 29, 1950 they were married in El Paso, Texas. While living in El Paso they were gifted with two children Beverly Jeanne and William Bradley. During their time in El Paso June taught one year and proceeded to move to Big Lake in 1954 where she was a high school teacher for three years. During that time she was involved and sponsored numerous student activities. While living in Big Lake, Texas they were blessed with a third Child Ben Wesley. In 1959, the Green family moved to Odessa, Texas, where June taught at Odessa High School for 19 years, and was a member at Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ. In 1978 the family moved to San Angelo, Texas where June and Alton opened Southland Frame Center & Gallery and stayed in operation for over twenty years. After the couple retired they enjoyed many camping trips to Colorado and New Mexico and made some wonderful lifelong friends in the Twin Mountain Campers group. June was a faithful member of the Johnson Street Church of Christ. For 17 years, she enjoyed being a part of the World Bible School and spent many hours supporting Rust Street Ministries. June enjoyed being a servant to the Lord and was a tireless worker in her service to Him. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Billie Waid of El Paso, and her grandson James Bradley Green. She is survived by her loving husband and best friend Al and her three children, eight grand children, eight great-grand children, and one great-great grandchild, one sister, Jean Wynne and many nephews and nieces. Alas, she is also survived by her many loving church friends and by her wonderful faithful friend and caregiver Oneta Scott. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Monday, October 29, 2012 at Johnson’s Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, October 29, 2012 at Johnson Street Church of Christ with Tommy King officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. June had such a gift for color and recognizing just the right matts and frames for my photographs. It was always a pleasure to come to the Frame Shop and see her. Keeping the family in my prayers.

I met Mrs. Green one a couple of occasions and she was so very kind. When I told her I went to school with her son, Brad, is Odessa, she lit up and we talked for quite a bit. She was a woman of grace and so very kind. That all tells me that the gates of heaven were open wide the day she left this earth. In the meantime, my prayers for the family.

June Green was one of the nicest, sweetest people I ever met. She and Coach were so much fun to be around and they truly were best friends. Gosh, what a love story those two lived. Heaven is a better place because a special angel, June Green, has come home. And Coach, just wanted to tell you after all these years you are still my hero.

To the family of June Green:
I think we missed a great blessing from the Lord by not having met June. We are friends of her daughter Beverly and husband Jim Sargent. May God bless all family members with peace and comfort in the knowledge that June is in a better place today.

Remember June so well when she had Southland Frame. We had a photo lab and did business with her and always discussed Odessa. I was not lucky to have her as a teacher at Odessa High School. My prayers are with the family.
May June RIP

After many years of being apart, I often reflect on very happy times in Big Lake with the Greens. Both June and Al were very special people in my early life. Mrs. Green, you are loved by many people. Linda Short Burnett
