Kenneth Ray Stinson, 90, passed away on October 4, 2026. Born September 5, 1936, in Texon, Texas, he was the son of John Loflin Stinson and Bonnie (Choate) Stinson. He graduated from Kermit High School in 1955 and attended Tarleton State College. Kenneth made his home in Grape Creek, Texas, and was a faithful member of Grape Creek Baptist Church.
Kenneth served in the 2nd Army Band from 1957 to 1962, a season of life marked by discipline and distinction. During his time in the Army, he performed for Queen Elizabeth II and appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show—memorable highlights of a life that carried both quiet steadiness and notable moments of honor.
After leaving the Army, Kenneth worked in the oil field in West Texas before beginning a long and dedicated career with the City of Lovington, New Mexico. From 1968 to 1998, he served the community with consistent commitment, including his work as park superintendent for Chaparral and other parks around the city. He also built Chaparral Park, leaving a lasting, tangible gift for families and neighbors to enjoy for years to come. In addition, Kenneth served as a volunteer fire chief for the community, offering his time and leadership in service to others.
Away from work, Kenneth found deep satisfaction in the simple, enduring pleasures of life—woodworking done with care, days spent camping and fishing, and time outdoors where he felt most at peace. These interests reflected a steady spirit and an appreciation for what is lasting, practical, and good.
Kenneth is survived by his spouse, Sammie Stinson of Grape Creek, Texas; his son, Kenneth Stinson Jr. and Christy of Dallas, Oregon; and daughters-in-law, Kendall Stinson (John Stinson) of Houston, Texas, and Kimberly Stinson Taylor (Tom Stinson) of Texoma, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jennifer Stinson of Fort Worth, Texas; Claire Stinson Perez and Carlos of Dallas, Oregon; Gillian Stinson of Dallas, Oregon; Johna Stinson Thomas and Matthew of Burleson, Texas; Stuart Stinson and Alexandria of Houston, Texas; Aiden Stinson of Houston, Texas; Tristen Stinson of Deerfield, Massachusetts; Ryan Stinson and Kelsey of Anchorage, Alaska; Kaitlyn Stinson Folletti and Dominick of Seattle, Washington; and Alexis Kennan of Hobbs, New Mexico; as well as nine great-grandchildren.
