Lauren Edgar Knepshield ended his earthly life on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012. Born to Lauren G. Knepshield and Eleanor Allison on Aug. 3, 1935, in Apolo, Pa. His family moved to San Angelo, Texas, in 1940, where his father trained bomber pilots during World War II. He graduated from high school in San Angelo, then joined the Army, attaining the rank of captain in the Special Forces. He served four of the eight years in Vietnam, receiving three Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars, a Silver Star and V for Valor. He obtained his BBA from the University of Houston, majoring in accounting. He held several financial positions in the energy industry. Ed enjoyed volunteering at the Abundant Ark Children's Center, conducting chapel time and mentoring children from broken homes. When he retired to his beloved San Angelo, he worked with his therapy dog, Casper, in the Tail Waggin' Tutor program at Fort Concho, Bowie and Santa Rita elementary schools. He was a member of Sierra Vista United Methodist Church. Ed is survived by his wife of 21 years, Judy Luti Knepshield of San Angelo; and his sister, Pat Hurley of Canyon Lake.
