Lenora, affectionately known as Aunt Nora, passed away in Tomball, Texas, (outside of Houston), on February 17, 2026. She was born during the Great Depression, in Tennyson, Coke County, Texas, on the Brooks’ family homestead. She had two older sisters, Mildred Palmer Green and Gladys Palmer Heideman, and one older brother, Vernon Palmer. Her parents were Grace Brooks Palmer and William Joshua Palmer. Her parents and siblings preceded her in death.
Lenora’s family moved to San Angelo when she was young, and she attended San Angelo schools, graduating from Lake View High School. She played the clarinet in the High School marching band. Lenora’s favorite song was “The Eyes of Texas.”
Lenora had many nieces and nephews, of whom she was very fond.
As a young adult, Aunt Nora drove her nieces and nephews around San Angelo to different locales for fun. One of the most enjoyable pastimes was going to the Rocket drive-in theater to see movies, which was a real treat if you grew up in the 50s and 60s in this area. Later, she worked to receive her LVN to become a nurse as a lifelong calling to help and serve others. Lenora faced life’s challenges with grace and found joy in simple pleasures. She especially loved to study the Bible. She also enjoyed playing games like Skip Bo, Scrabble, Dominoes, and Mahjong with friends and family. She loved her family and lived for a time with her sister, Gladys, in San Angelo where she was a member of the First Baptist Church. She then moved back to the Houston area where she was faithfully taken care of by her niece, Carolyn, until passing.
Lenora was married and had a daughter who died at birth. She has one son, Kevin Keel, who lives in Houston.
Lenora lived a life full of faith and was a beacon of Christian values and character. She led many to know Christ and will be greatly missed. Lenora has come full circle and will be laid to rest in Tennyson, Texas.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 10:30 am at Mule Creek Cemetery in Tennyson.
Matthew 25:23 “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Rest in peace, Aunt Nora.
