Louis Lee Colbert

Louis Lee Colbert, 91, went home to be with the Lord on August 19, 2026. He was born in Milam County, June 26, 1935, to the late Lonzo Colbert and R. Kay Thomas. After his birth, he was blessed with an abundance of brothers and sisters.

Louis was raised on his grandparents' farm and would attend school in town.  He would often mention working next to his Papa and brothers during the week and rushing to town on Saturdays. It was during one of those Saturday visits that he met and later married Lula Young on November 17,1956. They were married for over 50 years.  Their union brought together two families that God blended into one – Gregory Louis, Timothy and Pamela.  He was a proud grandfather of two; Kim (three great-grandchildren) and Sévon, who brought immense joy to his life.

Louis worshipped at Bethlehem Baptist Church for over 50 years, where he was an instrumental part of the Usher board; the greatest thing that ever happened to Louis was accepting Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Louis was no stranger to working hard;  After leaving home at thirteen and making his way to West Texas, he worked many jobs before finding his passion in the service station with Buddy Winn. He worked there for many years, before he later branched out on his own, with his daughter by his side until he retired the business.  Not being one to let "grass grow under his feet", he went to work for the Ratliff family. He would often talk about how he loved being on the ranch; doing the work he did as a child. Louis enjoyed people; he knew no stranger.   He loved talking to young men and women and was fondly "Uncle Louis/Louie" to many.  Louis loved gatherings and being around family; he enjoyed barbecuing, listening to blues, gospel music and watching old western movies. Above all, he loved his Dallas Cowboys; where every year, he swore, was their year. This always made for an interesting football season, because his daughter is a die-hard Eagles' fan. Louis’ memory will be forever cherished by his family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 501 S. California Ave, Big Lake, Texas 76932, on August 29, 2026, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the Homegoing Service at the same location on August 29, 2026, at 11:00 am. Final resting place will be Glen Rest Cemetery in Big Lake.
