Loyd D. Evans was born August 17, 1944 to James E. and Lottie Pauline (McKee) Evans in Brownfield, Texas. He graduated from Hobbs High School in 1963. He joined the Army National Guard in 1961 and served six years. He married his wife of 50 and a half years, Frances Elaine (Carter) Evans on August 20, 1966. Loyd worked in the oilfields in and around Eastern New Mexico and West Texas as a young man. For thirty-one years, he worked in natural gas plants that spanned the Skelly Oil, Getty Oil, and Texaco Oil companies. After retirement, he worked for Eddins-Walcher, which later became SC Fuels and United Fuels.
Loyd and Frances moved from their lifelong home in Hobbs, New Mexico to San Angelo, Texas in 2011. The move was difficult on Loyd, having to leave family and friends. He quickly made new friends, however, among the members of the Immanuel Baptist Church, the men and women who shuttle cars for Enterprise in San Angelo, and the men and women of his cycling club. Loyd was an avid bicyclist, logging thousands of miles on the road. Loyd went home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 13, 2017 at Shannon Medical Center, two weeks after suffering a head injury. The day of his accident he was doing what he loved––riding his bike with friends on a perfect March evening, going downhill with the wind to his back.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, E.L. Coppedge; sister: Jean Henderson; brothers, Dean Evans and Kenneth Evans; half-brother, James Monroe Evans; step-brother, Bobby Coppedge; step-sisters Louise Capps and Patsy Bell. He is survived by his wife of the home; brothers, Leroy and wife, Barbara, of Amarillo, and his twin, Floyd and wife, Mary, of Hobbs, New Mexico; step-brother Larry Coppedge; step-sisters Peggy Leach, Sue Allphin, Kay Whinery; daughter, Doris Hudson and husband, Tony, of San Angelo; son, Randy and wife, Julie Ann, of Holland, Texas; grandchildren, Hunter Burt, Dessera Evans, Stephen Evans, Joshua Evans, Caleb Evans, Hannah Hudson, and John Hudson; great-grandson, William Villarreal; and special friends, John and Barbara Epperson, Amanda and Jacob Garcia, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Building Fund of the Immanuel Baptist Church of San Angelo, the purchase of Bibles through Gideons International, or the Auxiliary of the Baptist Retirement Community in San Angelo.
Arrangements under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home, San Angelo, TX.
