Lucy Ann Hinde, 91, of Barnhart, passed away peacefully on December 5th, 2022, at her home. She was born to Alvin Campbell Hinde and Annie Cutbirth Hinde on March 8, 1931. Lucy spent her entire life on the Hinde ranch west of Barnhart and graduated from the Barnhart School. After graduation, Lucy attended San Angelo College.
Lucy was a true ranch woman in every sense. She grew up in the saddle and worked along-side her dad from a very early age. She was most content when she was surrounded by her livestock and pets, all of which she loved dearly. After her father passed away, when Lucy was 23, Lucy and her mother ran the ranch as equal partners until Annie’s death in 1992 at the age of 94, after which Lucy personally operated the ranch until her death.
In addition to the ranch work, Lucy dearly enjoyed her mother’s hospitality and the many formal dinner parties that were held at the ranch over the years. Lucy also loved square dancing, bluegrass music and her Cutbirth family reunions.
Lucy was a devoted friend and a joyful Christian woman. She loved playing dominoes and bingo with her friends, and she especially loved the monthly Barnhart luncheons that were held for many years at the Barnhart Community Center. She was a longtime member of the Barnhart Cowboy Church and The Daughters of the Republic of Texas and she was a supporter of the Irion County Historical Society.
Lucy is preceded in death by her parents, Campbell and Annie Hinde and an infant brother, Robert Alvin Hinde. Those left to cherish her memory are her devoted friends Bobbie Carnes, Jo Nell Carnes, Ivie Avery, Mike Elkins, W.A. Estes, Bud Poage, Nancy Poage, Nicole Poage and Trey Poage, along with many friends and extended family. In her latter days, as her physical health declined, Lucy was taken care of by her dearest friend on Earth, Glenda Kuykendall. Glenda was attentive to Lucy’s every need and was a picture of a Godly friend and Lucy often said as much.
A graveside memorial service for Lucy will be held at 1 p.m, Sunday, December 11th, at the Barnhart Cemetery with Pastor Mark Smith officiating. Pallbearers are Mike Elkins, Bill Avery, W.A. Estes, Shot Branham, Rusty Owens and Trey Poage. Honorary pallbearers are Tommy Owens and Bud Poage.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Lucy’s name to the Barnhart Cowboy Church.
