October 15, 1924 – November 12, 2017
Marie Ellis Moore Hoffman aka “Nonnie” crossed the finish line of life on November 12, 2017. She was surrounded by family and friends on her final lap of the race. Marie was born Marie Ellis in Stamford, Texas on October 15, 1924 to Homer and Vera Ellis. She had an older brother “Big” Jim Ellis and later on a younger brother Morris Ellis. Later in life, Big Jim and Morris got into the oil business. They never stopped spoiling the sister they loved with wonderful gifts. Homer Ellis passed away when Marie was 6 years old. She then lived with her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Sam Curry. Later, Vera married Frank Roberts “Papa Frank”. Marie Ellis married Cecil Moore October 12, 1941. They settled down in Andrews, Texas where Cecil worked for the Andrews County Road Dept. and Marie worked as a school secretary. Later Marie worked in the First National Bank of Andrews for over 20 years. Cecil and Marie raised two beautiful daughters Linda and Glenda Moore who both graduated from Andrews High School. Linda married Benny Gore and Glenda married Lloyd Winkley. Marie’s favorite pastime was fishing and staying at the trailer house at Lake Amistad by Del Rio, Texas. Cecil and Marie aka “Dodaddy” and “Nonnie” spent many a weekend with their six grandkids at the Lake. If they were not at the lake they were taking the grandkids to the “prairie dog town” or the “duck pond” in Andrews. Thanksgivings were spent in Andrews. Marie cooked the best giblet gravy while Cecil hid the eggs (some even had a quarter taped to them). The grandkids also got the privilege of snapping black-eyed peas for “Nonnie”, and they were rewarded by getting steak fingers from Buddy’s. Marie was married to Cecil Moore for over 50 years before losing him. Later in her life, Marie met Don Hoffman who complemented her life. Don had also lost his spouse to cancer and he loved to fish. After a year, Marie and Don got married. They spent a great deal of time at Lake Amistad splitting their time between Don’s house in Rough Canyon and Marie’s house at Amistad Acres. They were married for over 5 years before Don passed away due to heart surgery complications. Wanting to be closer to family and knowing that her grandson, Stan Winkley, worked at Baptist Memorial, she moved from Andrews in 2006 into a house on the Baptist Memorial Campus. Marie liked the idea of having Stan frequently checking on her and her new roommate “Sassy”, a miniature poodle. Little did she know, Stan’s new wife, Cathy would end up checking on her almost every day. Now in her new home and not being physically able to go to the lake as much as she would like, Marie turned her energy to her other pastime, sports. Marie could easily compete with any ESPN broadcaster when it came to her favorite teams; the Dallas Cowboys, the San Antonio Spurs, the Texas Rangers, and numerous tennis pros. If it was sports and it was on TV, Marie was watching it. Marie loved her sports. She also loved getting calls every day from her daughter, Linda. Marie was preceded in death by her daughter, Glenda Fay (Moore) Winkley, her first husband, Cecil Arthur Moore, her second husband, Don Hoffman, her mother, Vera Ellis Roberts, her step-father, Frank Roberts, her brother, James “Big Jim” Ellis, her mother-in-law Berta Moore and her son-in-law, Bennie Gore.
She is survived by Sassy, her faithful poodle; her brother, ML “Morris” Ellis; her loving daughter, Linda Gore; her six grandchildren, Kathy Gore, Shelley Elliott, Bradley Gore, Russell Winkley, Stanley Winkley, and Stacie (Winkley) Murrah; 18 Great-Grandchildren; 7 Great-Great-Grandchildren; numerous nieces/nephews, and many friends that were just like family.

Funeral service will be held at the church she attended faithfully, 9th & Main Church of Christ, , at 9:00 AM on Thursday, November 16, 2017.
