Mary Jo Harris

Mary Jo Townley Harris passed from this life on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015 to be with her Lord and Savior. She was 89. Jo was born on July 22, 1926 to Ira Lee Gamble and WilliamVirgil Townley. She spent her childhood in Henrietta, Texas. She was the youngest of six siblings, who all predeceased her.

She met John Scott Harris in San Angelo, Texas, where she was working at Goodfellow, when he was on leave after WWII. They were married in San Angelo, Nov. 29, 1945. John Scott was recalled to the military and made it his career. The family lived in several states, Spain, and England. They returned to San Angelo when he retired from the Air Force. Jo had a very successful career in office administration with Pool Company, the Tom Green County Clerk and Western Communications. She was an involved volunteer with Shannon Hospital, Desk and Derrick and the Alzheimer’s Association.

John Scott passed away in January of 2006. Jo lived the last several years at Royal Estates, where she renewed many old friendships and made many new ones. She was a member of Glen Meadows Baptist Church and attended the Joy Class.

She is survived by her five children - Lauralee Harris, Bonnie Jo Hollis, Terri Harris Motl, Jaye Marie Huseman and Charles Scott Harris. Between them they have blessed her with eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

A celebration of her life is today at 11:00 a.m. at Glen Meadows Baptist Church with Rev. Mack Roller officiating. There will be a private burial. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Johnson’s Funeral Home.

There are a number of people who have been very special to her including family friend Judy Sprayberry and loving caretakers Stephanie Melendez, Sylvia Montalvo and Hope Guzman.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Glen Meadows Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
