

A celebration of Annette’s life is at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2016 at Sierra Vista United Methodist Church with Pastor Stan Whites officiating. Burial will be in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Johnson’s Funeral Home.
Annette was born March 3rd, 1928 in Columbia, Kentucky to Herschel Taylor and Mildred Chandler Taylor. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and sister Lucille “Chan” Otis.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Major Thurman “Tom” Hopkins, USAF, Ret. and her daughter Mary Ann Hopkins.
Annette graduated from Columbia High School. She continued to pursue her education and graduated from Lindsey Wilson Junior College and then finally she culminated her education with a degree in Education from the University of Kentucky.
Major Tom and Teacher Annette’s final duty station placed them in San Angelo, Texas. Tom at Goodfellow AFB, and Annette with the San Angelo Independent School System as a 5th Grade Teacher at Santa Rita Elementary.
The love of her church home at Sierra Vista United Methodist, playing Bridge with her Lady friends, and her political involvement at all levels brought Annette immeasurable enjoyment to a life that she gladly shared.
Annette was a 63-year member of The Daughters of the American Revolution and a charter member of The Concho Valley Republican Women. She also headed up the 1960 U.S. Census for Tom Green County. In 1999 she was named one of the “Top Ten Outstanding Republican Women in the State”.
