Max Havlik

Max graduated from Lakeview High School prior to attending San Angelo College & Sul Ross University in Alpine.

Max began working at a young age, starting with a paper route and then went on to work at Coca Cola Bottling Co. He joined the Navy in 1957 and spent the majority of his service in Hawaii, playing softball with the SubPac team, as their pitcher. Upon his return to San Angelo, had an opportunity to work as a carpenter, before eventually starting his own roofing company – Max Havlik Roofing. He roofed many homes and businesses in San Angelo and the surrounding areas during his years as a roofer.

Max had a passion for sports and the outdoors. He played softball and slow pitch for many years as the team pitcher. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He made annual trips to Colorado to hunt elk, along with regular trips to hunt in Alaska, Montana, Yukon Territory in Canada, and even a trip to Africa with longtime friends Alford and Pat Stewart.

Max married Ava Englert on January 26, 2001. They enjoyed traveling during their retirement years to Alaska, Utah, Colorado, Alabama, Washington, Montana, Georgia, California, Oregon, Missouri and Wyoming.

Max is survived by his wife Ava, daughters Linda (Laddy) McMurry, Reba (Greg) Priddy, step-sons David (Donna) Englert and James Englert. Grandchildren Joel (Brooke) Holland, Lauren (Brian) Yonkin, Alyssa (Zach) Spence. Great grandchildren Kailee (Trevor) Hamm, Elli and Preslee Holland, Peri and Quinn Yonkin and Lawson and Jett Spence. He is also survived by his brother, Jim Havlik, brother-in-law, Gene Dreyer, nieces, Sarah Denson and Susan Palmer and the mother of his daughters, Shirley Havlik.

Max was preceded in death by his parents Lad and Jetta Havlik and sister, Ladene Dreyer.

During Max’s life he was blessed to travel and experience many beautiful places that revealed the artistry of God. Thankfully he passed that love of adventure along to his family, who all love every chance we get to experience the Great Outdoors – National Parks, waterfalls, mountain streams, etc.

The Havlik Family would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the staff of The Springs Memory Care and Concho Hearts Hospice for their attentive and compassionate care of Max.

Graveside services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday January 10, 2025 at Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
