

Melvin Norman Gray, age 74, died on October 10, 2015, surrounded by family and friends. Melvin was born in Del Rio, Texas on September 11, 1941, to Earlene and Norman Gray. Melvin graduated from Central High School in 1960. He went to TCU on a football scholarship, and graduated in 1964. Melvin then went to Baylor University where he received his J.D. in 1966. He served 4 years as a Captain in the US Army.
Melvin has practiced law in San Angelo for 50 years. He married Suzanne Woodruff in 1964 in San Angelo, Texas. He was a member of the Concho Valley Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. Melvin was also a Mason. Melvin was also a Master Mason. He was known for being a fierce trial lawyer but also had a soft heart. He loved spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Jean Gray. Survivors include his wife Suzanne; children: Vicki Bingham and Kristin Henry and husband Jason; partner Julia Green; siblings: Karel McManus, Rusty Gray and wife Michelle, and Charlie Gray and wife Dee; grandchildren: Stormie and Ashlie Bingham and Grayson and Ava Henry; nieces and nephews: Jimmy McManus, III, Suzie McManus, Collin Gray, and Brailey Gray.
Graveside service is at 2:00 p.m. in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens on October 14, 2015. Attire for the service is casual country. Arrangements are by Johnson’s Funeral Home.
