

Michael Joseph Figueroa passed away in the arms of his loving wife on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at San Angelo Community Medical Center. He was born on April 2, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY to Bienvenido and Eudosia Figueroa. Mike dedicated 29 years to the United States Navy and retired in San Angelo. After retiring from the military he worked for Mission Ice, Pool Company, and Tom Green County until retiring in 1995.
Mike was active in the community throughout his life. He was a member of the local FRA chapter continuing his proud Navy heritage after retirement. He was a true patriot and loved his country, devoting countless hours to the political process of elections. He was the PTA president at his daughter’s school and awarded an Honorary Lifetime PTA Membership for his commitment and dedication. He also enjoyed sharing the gift of life by donating almost 20 gallons of blood during his lifetime. Mike was an avid golfer and could be found on the links every week chasing that little white ball. He was an inspiration and truly touched the lives of everyone he met.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Gail Figueroa of San Angelo, sisters, Innocencia Serafini of Toms River, NJ and Nydia Jacovino of Manalapan, NJ, brother, Bienvenido Figueroa of Brooklyn, NY, brother-in-law, Jerry Ferris of San Angelo, daughters, Ginger Allen and husband Roland of Oklahoma City, OK, Brenda Figueroa of Trail, OR, Cindy Allard of Bend, OR, and Teri Park of Cottonwood, CA, son, Mickey Figueroa and wife Evana of Bend, OR, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Michael was preceded in death by his father and mother, both of Brooklyn, NY and mother-in-law Virginia Murphy of Woodside, NY, sister-in-law, Dorothy Ferris of San Angelo, TX, brothers-in-law, Raymond Serafini, of Toms River, NJ and Joseph Jacovino, of Brooklyn, NY and his niece Darlene Serafini of Toms River, NJ.

A heartfelt thanks to our physician, Dr. Peter Chang, for all the compassion he has bestowed on us. The family would also like to thank Dr. Richard Thorpe, Dr. Chris Haddat, Dr. Rudy Haddat, the special PCU nurses and staff and the ICU unit of San Angelo Community Medical Center and Dr. Benedict Konzen and Rev. Steve Thorney of MD Anderson, and Interim Health Care all for their benevolent and dedicated care.
Relatives and friends are welcome at Johnson’s Funeral Home, 435 West Beauregard, San Angelo, TX 76903, Tuesday, November 8, 2011 from 6p.m. to 8 p.m. for visitation. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, November 9, 2011 in the funeral home chapel.
