

Neva Dene Smith, 79, of San Angelo passed away peacefully at her residence on June 3, 2011. She was born July 22, 1931 in Eola where she grew up. She attended school at Hess Averet and Eola Rural High School. She graduated in 1953 from the Shannon Nursing School. She was a Diplomaed Registered Nurse for 40 years. She worked at Orange Memorial Hospital in Orange, Texas in 1963 she returned home and worked for a short time in a Concho county hospital in Eden where she then became the school nurse for all of Concho County school district until 1983. She then took a position at the Tom Green County Health Dept. as a state Health Nurse until her retirement in 1993. Many will remember her giving immunizations and saying “shoot a monkey.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Francis Smith, and her parents, Ralph and Lillie Marion.
She is survived by 2 daughters: Katherine “Kat” Douglass of San Angelo and Rebecca “Beck” Potts of San Angelo; 1 brother: Durvin Marion of San Antonio; 5 Grandchildren: April Blouin of Quebec, Canada, Jennifer O’Neill of Pflugerville, TX, Sarah Douglass of Lubbock, Matt Douglass of Lubbock and Emily Schnatz of San Angelo; and 5 Great Grandchildren: Luke, Reed and Lily O’Neill of Pflugerville, TX and Dylan and Ryan Blouin of Quebec, Canada.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 5, 2011 from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at Johnson’s Funeral Home.
Services will be held Monday, June 6, 2011 at 10:00a.m. at Johnson’s Funeral Home officiated by Bro. Toby Irwin at Belmore Baptist Church. Burial service will follow at Eola Cemetery with David Womack officiating. Reception will follow at The Eola Baptist Church.
