

Oscar Latham, age 80, passed away on June 26,2026 in San Angelo, Tx. Oscar was born in Gatesville, Tx , the second son to Johnnie and Hazel Latham. He grew up on a small farm and developed a love of nature, a strong work ethic, and compassion for the underdog. Oscar left the farm and went on to obtain his MSW at Our Lady of the Lake, San Antonio and enjoyed a full career working with children and adolescents in a variety of public agencies serving children in the fields of juvenile corrections and mental health, drug and alcohol prevention and medical early childhood intervention. He brought a sharp mind, kindness, compassion and fierce advocacy for his clients. He enjoyed an early retirement and went on to live a life full of the things he enjoyed. He became an accomplished stone sculptor and an established Chicken Farmer at the Art Center. He was a prolific gardener, and a well known country western dancer. While he enjoyed his time alone, he was often seen about town enjoying and generously supporting the community and special causes. Oscar is survived by his daughter Katherine Latham. He was preceded in death by his parents Johnnie and Hazel Latham, brother J.R. Latham, and great nephew Jeremy Latham. As is fitting and consistent, he donated his body to Texas Tech Medical School. The family would like to express deep appreciation to Mary Anne Casey for her kind and loving care. There will be a memorial service and interment at the Latham family plot in Turnersville, Tx., date to be determined.
