Peggy Johnson Schmidt, 66, passed away on June 6, 2026. Born August 24, 1959, Peggy was a lifelong resident of San Angelo, Texas, and a graduate of San Angelo’s Central High School. She will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection as a loving mother and grandmother whose family remained the center of her life.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd M. & Earline Schaefer Johnson; her son, Fred Daniel; and her brother, Darrell Johnson. She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Anne Daniel; her granddaughters, Hanna & Anna Ponder; and her brother, Kevin Johnson. The heart and soul of Peggy’s life were her two granddaughters, and her love for them was constant and unmistakable.
Living on limited means, Peggy met life with steady determination and a willingness to do whatever was needed to care for those she loved—work that would “make Dave Ramsey proud.” Over the years she took on all kinds of odd jobs, including cafeteria work, Pizza Hut delivery, serving as a school crossing guard, office cleaning, and healthcare work. In each role, she carried forward a quiet devotion to providing for her family.
Peggy also found joy in simple, meaningful treasures. She loved pets, especially her chihuahua dogs, and she delighted in collecting seashells, lighthouses, and butterflies—small reminders of beauty that she kept close.
In her retirement years, Peggy loved living at the Rio Concho Manor. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Doug, Norma, Mary, and Kathy in the office; to Pastor Charles Smith; to the cafeteria staff—Suzanne, Linda, Sylvia, and Coral; and to the kitchen crew and lunch residents who kept tabs on Peggy, alerting the office if she didn’t show up. Thanks also to her special friend Dianna Cate, and to cousins—Joyce, Paula, Dwayne, Mary Lou & Kenneth, Connie, Earl, Loretta, & Barbara Schaefer. Appreciation is also extended to the St. Gabriel’s hospice staff, especially Tammy & Sherry, and to the Arbor Terrace nursing staff, with special thanks for her roommate Ms. Holliday.
Her daughter, Peggy Daniel, wrote:
“To: Peggy, my baby daughter. The first to teach my heart to care, with every memory we've woven. You are the blessing shiny HEART
To: Anna, my heart grandbaby. You bring a warmth that fills my day. A precious light of pure perfection, brings joy in countless ways.
To: Hannah, my soul baby. You are the whisper of my mind. A boundless love without ending.
The sweetest grace I'll ever find
Three little stars that shine so bright
Three little angels in the night.
Gone from my arms, but not my heart -
forever a part of where I start.
Though silent the death is heavy.
The grief. Your memories bring my spirit relief
I rest gently watching over you all
I live forever inside of you all in spirit as I take my last breath on earth, the first in heaven along with others here have been waiting for me. Join now. I wait for you all too.”
Graveside services at Calvary Cemetery will be held June 18th at 10:30am.
