Mr. Burroughs was a good man.  He gave me my very first spat while I attended Reagan Elementary.  So long ago…I look back and I just smile at his memory.  He always spoke to me in a welcoming way but he laid down the law to me as well…

Phil you were more than just an uncle. You were my life long mentor and hero. We always looked forward to our times together. Like when you took Mary Lynn and me to Branson! We had so many laughs! Probably the two of you laughing at something I did! So many fun memories of different ages! When you guys lived in Marfa right on campus. You took Mary Lynn and me over to school gym! We felt so privileged that you had keys to the place! I will always remember your little chuckle laugh! The love and bond we built never to be broken! We also extended that same love and bond to sweet baby Phyliss! Maybe we felt like the older sisters but we knew what your love was for sweet Phyllis! Kinda jealous but happy we had to share you with her! I know 2 people happy to welcome you to the other side”Mary and BillieAnn”. You guys will pickup on fun ! Everytime I eat chocolate pie I will think of you and Mary making together! I know it was hard for you to leave all your girls! Relationships changing from different roles but the bond will always be there. We all know your wish for each of us ! Love, joy , keep having fun times together! Each time we  are together we will celebrate our hero guy PHIL! Love you and keep looking after all of us!❤️❤️🙏🥰

It was so special growing up with our Uncle Phil!! He was so much fun to be with and later in life we had so much fun telling our stories and laughing at Phil’s funny stories!! Even though we hear them over and over we all laugh and get to enjoy and share all our memories together. One special time that I will always remember is when I was about  16 and he was a coach at Talpa he opened the gym and let us play basketball!! He always had time for us to find fun things to do!! He was such a great coach , teacher, and principal to look up to! His legacy will live on through all his family, students, and friends! I love you Phil and wish I could hear one more funny story! Mr. Burroughs, you were already a seasoned principal when I first stepped through the halls of Reagan Elementary. Even then, we could see that you were a deeply compassionate educator.

I never had the opportunity to tell you the impact you had on my life, but please know that you left an indelible mark on me and on so many children who had the privilege of learning under your supervision. I still remember your smile, your kindness, and the hugs that made students feel seen, valued, and cared for.

You were a very special soul. Your influence did not end when we left those school hallways. It continues through the lives of the students you encouraged, supported, and helped shape.

Your impact will be felt for generations to come.

Prayers for you all as you say farewell to an awesome man!  Phyllis, I know he loved you, and you, him,  so very much!   He is in the arms of Jesus now!  RIP, sir.

Mister Burroughs was a friend that I loved very much. He was my principal. There was not another person better than him. I loved him dearly. 

Uncle Phil was precious. He was so kind, quiet- always helpful to all. We have such sweet memories as children and as adults so looked forward to Dallas visits- he was loved and will be so missed. He will join so many waiting for him in heaven- his journey home will be a joyous celebration- love you so Uncle Phil. We will be together again one day❤️

I had the privilege of attending Reagan Elementary from kindergarten through sixth grade, and I will always remember his kindness and the positive impact he had on so many students.
