Robert (Bob) Dennis Poynor, Sr., age 88, passed away on December 30, 2023, in San Angelo, Texas. He was born on November 25, 1935, in Craig, Alaska to Robert B. Poynor and Rae Hildred Harrison. Bob grew up in Craig & Ketchikan, Alaska; San Diego and San Francisco, California and graduated from Sheldon Jackson High School in Sitka, Alaska. He joined the Air Force in 1953, and served in Texas, Illinois, Greenland, California, Turkey, Okinawa, Japan, and Southeast Asia. After 21 years, he retired from the Air Force at Goodfellow AFB in 1974. He obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and his Teaching Certificate in 1980.
Bob taught in high schools in Paint Rock, Christoval, San Angelo and tutored with the Concho Valley Council of Governments. Bob was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, a member of the Three Rivers Chapter of the Good Sam RV Club and an active volunteer with Retired Senior Volunteer Program at Goodfellow AFB and in San Angelo.
Bob married Celine Collins on December 28, 1957, in Danbury, Iowa and had four (4) children, Katherine, Robert Jr., Joanne and David.
Bob is survived by his wife of 66 years Celine, daughters Katherine and Joanne Poynor (David Pate) of San Angelo and son Robert D. Jr. (Gina) Poynor of McKinney (grandchildren Laura Poynor, Lisa (Ieshia) Hayes, Taylor (Sarah) Poynor), and son David. J (Kim) Poynor of McKinney (grandchildren Hannah and Rebekah Poynor).
Bob will be remembered for his intellect, math and history knowledge, quick wit, humor, and love of his family. He could bring joy to a room with his smile and laugh and make anyone feel welcome.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of San Angelo and St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church of San Angelo.
Rosary service will be on January 19, 2024, 6pm at Johnson’s Funeral Home. The funeral will be on January 20, 2024, 11:00am at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church followed by Graveside and Honor Guard Services at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, then a light lunch reception at Johnson’s Funeral Home from 1:30pm until 4:30pm.
