Rosalee Matthews McLaughlin King, 93, with her son holding her hand and listening to How Great Thou Art by Carrie Underwood left her earthly body in the arms of a host of Heavenly Angels that carried her to the union of her eternal body in the presence of her heavenly father and the loved ones that had gone on before her.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Johnson’s Funeral Home of San Angelo, TX.
Rosalee was born on January 11th, 1933 to Richard and Lillie Matthews in Plainview, Texas. Rosalee was the second child with an older brother then followed by two sisters.
The Matthews family were farmers by trait which allowed them to work land in Hale Co. near Plainview and in Brisco Co. near Silverton. In 1945 the Lord blessed the Matthews family and Richard was able to purchase land in the Providence community near Lockney, TX which would become their permanent home place. Rosalee was always diligent in helping with all the chores that go with farm life. Rosalee learned at an early age manual labor from hoeing weeds, pulling cotton, gathering eggs, planting, picking, and canning the garden, stacking hay bales, driving tractor and of course milking cows.
Rosalee graduated Locking High School in 1950 as Salutatorian of her class. She attended Draughan’s Business Collage in Lubbock, TX. Upon returning home after Business College she worked at a couple of grocery stores in Plainview until March 1953. She married the love of her life Don McLaughlin. Don was an active farmer alongside his dad, Harold, so Rosalee continued right alongside Don with farm chores. Don and Rosalee were blessed with the birth of 3 children son Danny, daughter Teresa, and son Donnie. Along with raising her 3 children Rosalee was very active in the school P.T.A., her Churches, ladies' group and numerous community groups.
After 17 years and 8 ½ months Rosalee lost her beloved and cherished Don to Diabetes in December of 1970. With the strong background of knowing hard work Rosalee went to work at Plainview Medical Clinic in the Insurance Dept. In 1973 after months of correspondence, she married Al King at a small service in her parent’s home at Providence. Rosalee and Al relocated to San Angelo, TX. Rosalee continued her career in the Insurance Dept at Angelo Shannon Clinic, which after 22 years she retired as Assistant Supervisor. Rosalee, alongside Al, in their 50 years of marriage enjoyed a strong desire to serve their lord by being active in Calvary Lutheran Church and spending numerous hours with friends bowling, playing Farkel, Mexican Train, Chicken Foot, Left-Right-Center, and Sequence.
Rosalee was preceded in death by husband Don, husband Al King, daughter in law Vonda McLaughlin, son Danny McLaughlin, her three siblings and their spouses along with numerous brother and sister in laws along with other loved ones!
Roselee is survived by her daughter Teresa Carpenter and Husband Tom of Tucson, AZ; son Donnie McLaughlin of Lockney, TX; grand children Kasey Carpenter of Phoenix, AZ; Brandon Carpenter of Phoenix, AZ; Jeremy Carpenter and fiancé Makenzie of Springdale, AR; sister in law Pat Thornton of Abernathy, TX; and several cousins and nephews and nieces.
