R. Louis Goddard passed away the morning of October 24, 2011. During World War II he honorably served his country in the United States Army Air Corps from 1942 until 1946. For thirty-three years, Louis was employed by Safeway, Inc., as manager and district manager, and was given the opportunity to open the first grocery store in Saudi Arabia and other countries. He accepted several promotions, provided that he and his family remain based in San Angelo. Following his retirement from Safeway, he worked another ten years at Texas State Bank.
A year ago his wife of seventy years preceded him in death.
Mr. Goddard is survived by his daughter Sande Lynn Goddard, son-in-law Dr. Thad D. Knight, granddaughter Dae Ann Knight and her husband Tom Costello, and great-grandson Riley Taos Costello.
The family would like to acknowledge the staff at Meadow Creek, Vista Care Hospice, close friends Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Siler, our many friends at Texas State Bank, and members of First United Methodist Church.
A graveside Military Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Rev. J. T. Tucker, Rev. Nathaniel Hankins, and Chaplain Rob Bohnsack from Goodfellow Air Force Base.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to West Texas Boys Ranch, Lions Club Medical Eye Bank, or Patriot PAWS.
