

Velma Virginia “Chick” Jenkins Barler, 90, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2012 in Shannon Hospital in San Angelo, TX. Services will be held Friday, April 6, 2012 at 11:00am at Johnson’s Funeral Home with burial to follow at Fairmount Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Bush officiating. The family will receive friends at a visitation on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at Johnson’s Funeral Home from 5 to 7pm.
Chick was born February 2, 1922 in Mereta, TX to Mannie and Mel (White) Jenkins. Our “Mama”, “Peeps”, “Peto” was our everything. She taught us to love God, give 100% in all things and to live life to the fullest. She was a fantastic seamstress and cook. Everyone loved her cooking, especially her jellies along with chocolate and pecan pies. One of her many passions was working in the yard and always had the prettiest on the block. She married George Eugene Barler on December 22, 1941 and spent many years working and traveling to places from Kuwait to Columbia, South America. In between all that she was a bridal coordinator and sportswear buyer for Hemphill Wells for over twenty years. She is survived by daughters, Rexine Bristow, San Angelo, TX and Abbie McCormick and husband, Phil, Eldorado, TX. Grandchildren Brent Bristow, Joe Fuson, Plano,TX, Blake Bristow and wife Quinlan, Frisco, TX, Crissi McCormick Williams(Nathan), Von Ormy, TX and Matt McCormick and wife, Diane, Huntsville, TX and “Special Grandson” Dr. Raj Cheruku, Navarro, TX. Great grandchildren, Sunni Cate McCormick, Von Ormy, TX and Brynne and Mace Bristow, Frisco, TX. “Special granddaughter”, Shikhi Cheruku, Navarro, TX Brother, Dudley Jenkins and wife, Ora, Big Spring, TX and sister, Jody Miller, Houston, TX plus many special nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, R.B. and Earl; sisters Vada and Leta.
