Verna Mirl Gunn

Mirl (Memaw) Gunn-passed from this earth to her Heavenly home with her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 20, 2012, in a local hospital. She was born October 20, 1914 to August Earl Yates and Bessie Ellen Lemons Yates. Mirl graduated from High School in 1933 in Big Lake. She married the love of her life Thomas Lee Gunn, December 29, 1933. She was a homemaker and house wife she loved taking care of her family. She attended Beauty School and was a beauty operator for several years. She ran the Newcomer Greeter Service for many years and was also a real estate broker. She also worked for Walkers Grocery Store for 9 years. She had two children, a daughter Barbara Runnette Gunn, and a son Larry P. Gunn. She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Bessie, her brother Hugo Reed of Spain, Her loving husband Thomas, and her daughter Barbara. She is survived by her son Larry P. Gunn and his wife JoAnn of New Braunfels, Grandchildren John Wesley Gunn of New Braunfels, Baylus Tom Love and wife Debi, Margo Inez DeLosSantos, and Tomasina Gunn Cates of Ft. Worth, great grandchildren Kathryn Paige Gunn, Payton Storm Gunn, Amanda Kirsten Doucette, Lindsey Madison Cates, Kaitlyn Dawn Cates, Cassandra Dawn Love, and Rebecca Hunter Love. Memaw loved to have long discussions about politics and debating politics. She enjoyed getting into deep discussions about just about anything. She loved telling her grandchildren and great grandchildren about her life and teaching them about life. Services will be Tuesday at 3pm at Johnson’s Funeral Home with burial to follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Jim Benson. Pallbearers will be Larry Gunn, Tom Love, Wes Gunn, Margo DeLosSantos, Cassandra Love, and Rebecca Love. All family and friends are welcome to come and share in celebrating Mirl’s long and wonderful life with us.
