Violet Derby Kinyon "MamMaw," age 92, of San Angelo, went to be with her Lord on May 27, 2017. She was born in Mason, Texas to Bud and Gussie Derby on February 14, 1925. Violet graduated from Mason High School and shortly after, married the love of her life, Joseph M. Kinyon, on November 5, 1944. She later became a librarian and teacher for the San Angelo Independent School District. Violet and Joe enjoyed 44 years of marriage, up until his passing in 1988. They were members of the Southgate Church of Christ. Violet was kind and generous, and that was always reflected by her warm smile. Her earthly loves were bluebonnets, cardinals, and most importantly, her family. Some of her grandchildren's fondest memories were from the Saturday morning garage sale-ing tradition. The grandkids would stay with her on Friday night, then wake up at 6 AM in search of treasures, trinkets, and toys. Following would be a trip to the Concho River to feed the ducks. They would conclude with a McDonalds breakfast. She is survived by her sons, Paul Kinyon, and wife Tamara of San Angelo; Pat Kinyon, and wife Lyn of Arlington, TX; brothers Frank Derby and Ralph Derby, both of San Angelo; grandchildren Jared Kinyon and Hunter Kinyon, of San Antonio, Bradley Kinyon of El Paso, Mason Wheeler, of San Angelo, and Megan Wheeler, of Roanoak, TX; great granddaughter, Kylie Rae Kinyon, of San Antonio, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. James Melot, and the kind and caring staff at Regency House. Violet had a passion for books and reading that she instilled in her children and countless students. Family Visitation will be Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Johnson's Funeral Home from 6-8 PM. A graveside service will be held at Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens at 10 AM, Wednesday, May 31, 2017.
