

Walter “Buda’ Howell, 60 died Wednesday November 17th. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, November 19th at 11:00 A.M. at Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bluford Holland, Randy Lettig, Devry Baker, Al Moreland, Danny Updike, Al Edwards, Donald Baker, Robert Banister and Clinton Flint. Buda was born June 25, 1950 and got to Texas as fast as he could. He was born to Walter E. and Pearl (Fabian) Howell. As a young man in San Angelo, he was employed as a motorcycle mechanic where his love of motorcycles began. He worked for Hirschfield Steel for many years making numerous friends along the way. Beginning his employment in the early 1990’s with W.D. Moreland Mechanical Contractors, he worked extensively in the southwest. Buda worked refitting fuel systems on numerous U.S. Border Patrol Stations from South Padre Island, Texas to San Diego, California. He took great pride in knowing that the next station down the road wanted “a Buda Job”. His last project was at Camp Lemonnaire, a U.S. Naval Base in Djibouti, Africa. Buda never met a stranger and was a good friend to many. He was the ultimate story-teller and always had a way of making you laugh and feel as if you were the most important thing to him. He was preceded in death by his father, and a brother. He is survived by his wife Susan Sanders Howell of San Angelo, two daughters Royal of San Angelo and Raina of Davenport, IA; Mother and Step-father, Pearl and Charles Welch, Sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Wyatt Gilbert, Brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Wynell Welch of Avra Valley,AZ and brother, Chuck Welch of Tucson, AZ. Also brother and Sister in –law, Gary and Coleen Welch, of Clovis, NM, Sister Lisa Hosley, of Smithville, Utah and Step daughter, Marilyn Loftin and her son Michael, of Anchorage, AK.
Buda was a boots and jeans man, so please no suits or ties. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Meals For The Elderly or your favorite charity.
