Walter Lee Stripe Jr.

Walter Lee Stripe, Jr., 85, of San Angelo passed away Saturday October 11, 2014. Walter was born December 28, 1928 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to Walter Lee Stripe Sr. and Frances T. Easton Stripe. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Cost Accounting at the University of Wisconsin and obtained many certifications in the finance industry including; management accounting, licensed broker and real estate. Walter later earned a Master’s degree in Business Management from Angelo State University. He also was a professor at Howard College for a brief period. Walter served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War. Aside from his knowledge of business and finance, Walter also enjoyed teaching bible study at his church, Sierra Vista United Methodist Church, where he was a longtime member. He was a great bowler and loved defensive Tai Chi, which he started in his 80’s. Walter was a member of the San Angelo Kiwanis Club as well as a scout master for the Boy Scouts of America in Iowa. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Zona and his sister Erminie Eaton.

Walter is survived by his children John Stripe and his wife Tabitha of Arlington, daughters Denise Stripe and Cheryl Jones both of Midland, Carl Stripe of San Angelo and Donald Stripe and his wife Angie of Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Grandkids Jennifer McCleery, Krystal Stripe, Brianna Stripe, Jeffery Stripe, Stephen Stripe, Aynslee Stripe, Sunny Stripe, Erika Ramsey, Jordan Jones, Cameron Jones and Great-grandchild James McCleery.

The visitation for Walter Lee Stripe will be Tuesday October 14, 2014 from 5:30-7:30 pm at Johnson’s Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Wednesday October 15, 2014 at Sierra Vista United Methodist Church with Rev. Steven Sweet officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. The family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of San Angelo or Angelo State University.
