A. Jerome York

Jerry York, age 76, passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born to Clyde E. and Molly P. York on January 7, 1945, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Jerry served as Vice President and CIO for three Academic Health Centers over a thirty-five-year career, the most recent was as VP and CIO at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio (now UT Health SA). He taught in a national Leadership Institute in Boulder, Colorado for six years and embraced the need for leadership training for all Academic Health Centers. Subsequently, Jerry built and led two other Leadership Institutes, one in San Antonio and one on the national stage, which served approximately 800 participants during his tenure.

He served on the Board of The Children’s Shelter in San Antonio for 10 years, which included three years as Board Chair. The agency and its mission of caring for abused, abandoned, and neglected children became a passion for Jerry. In addition, as a stroke survivor, Jerry served as a peer mentor for other stroke victims in inpatient rehab.

Jerry was a proud member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He enjoyed working out, playing golf with friends and vacationing in Sanibel Island, FL. He was very appreciative of the medical care he received from his doctors and nurses during his battle with some serious health issues over the years.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila, who was his love, his rock and his foundation, and his children, Andrea L. York (Charleston, SC) and Christopher B. York and his wife, Kathryn (Chicago), of whom he was very proud. Jerry was a loving grandfather who cared deeply for his grandsons, Camden Emery Brennecke and Lucas Brady York, who affectionately called him Popi.
