Abelardo “Chacho” H. Flores Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, entered eternal rest on September 26, 2026, at the age of 69. He was born on July 31, 1957, and throughout his life, Abelardo was known for his strong work ethic, generous heart, and unwavering devotion to his family.
Abelardo graduated from Memorial High School in 1975. During his childhood, he was proud of his time as a Cub Scout, an experience he truly cherished. He often shared stories of his scouting days and proudly told stories of the patches he earned, which remained meaningful reminders of those special years. Abel was a hard working and dedicated man who took great pride in his family and his work. In 1973, he took over the family business, A. Flores Roofing, alongside his brothers. Together they carried on the family legacy and kept the business thriving. Abel also spent time managing A. Flores Tire Shop and Los Amigos Ballroom. Abel's strong work ethic, commitment, and dedication to his family were evident in everything he did, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to be remembered and honored.
Abelardo found his greatest joy in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he loved eternally and unconditionally. He spoiled them every chance he got and was always one step ahead, making sure they had everything they needed and often everything they didn't know they wanted. To his grandchildren, he was more than a grandfather, he was their beloved “Welo,” their biggest supporter, protector, and greatest source of love. He was truly the best Welo they could have ever asked for. He had a passion for horse racing and was proud to own several horses, earning numerous awards throughout the years.
He also enjoyed traveling and visiting casinos, where he could often be found trying his luck. One of his most recent adventures was a two-week trip to Spain with his wife and compadres, where he had the opportunity to explore beautiful places, experience new things, and make cherished memories. He also remained deeply connected to his parents’ hometown of Santa Gertrudis, Mexico, dedicating his time and efforts to its festivals and community. He took great pride in helping ensure the towns church and its people benefited while creating beautiful celebrations for everyone to enjoy.
Above all, he will be remembered for the love he gave so freely - to his family, his grandchildren, his community, and all those fortunate enough to know him. Abel was a great man whose greatest purpose in life was caring for others and putting his family first. Over the years, we came to understand just how deeply he was loved and respected. He was known as the root of the Flores family, the person people turned to for advice, guidance, and reassurance. He was trusted because he was loyal, honest, generous, and kind. Abel never needed to be right; what mattered to him was doing what was right and treating others with compassion. His wife was his right hand and his partner in everything, and together they built a life centered around their family. His greatest mission was to make sure his children were cared for, supported, and given every opportunity to have the world at their feet. Then came his grandchildren, and his love for them was immediate, unconditional, and boundless. He spoiled them, protected them, encouraged them, and took great pride in being their Welo. Abel was also much more than a brother to his siblings; in many ways he was like a father to them. He loved his siblings and their families deeply and considered their happiness his own. His love extended to his many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends, all of whom he held in the highest regard. Family and unity were at the heart of everything Abel believed in. He brought people together, gave freely of himself, and made those around him feel valued and loved. His greatest legacy will not be measured by what he owned or accomplished, but by the countless lives he touched and the love he gave so generously.
He is survived by his wife Oliva H. Flores; sons, Abelardo Flores III and Adrian P. Flores; daughters, Cynthia Gonzales, Christina Rodriguez, and Crystal Hemmerle; nine grandchildren, Gabriella Flores, Davian Gonzales, Abel Flores IV, Alex Rodriguez, Catalina Rodriguez, Cristian Gonzales, Adrian Flores Jr., Angel Flores, Joe Hemmerle Jr.; siblings, Rudy Flores, Roy Flores, Sylvia Martinez, and Diana Barrientos; along with numerous extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Abelardo and Elvira H. Flores; uncle and aunt, Albino and Petra Flores; maternal grandparents, Genovevo Hernandez and Juanita Rivas; and paternal grandparents, Arcadio and Jesuita Flores.
Abelardo's memory will live on through his family, his grandchildren, and his community. His presence will be deeply missed, but the love he shared will remain forever.
