Adelina Morales Alonso

August 31, 1951January 5, 2013

“You can’t take me until God wants me and when God wants me you can’t keep me”. Adelina Morales Alonso made her ascension to glory with our Lord Jesus Christ Saturday January 5th at 12:36 pm in her home in the presence of her family. Lena or “Chata” as she was called, is and will remain the figure of strength as a beloved mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, daughter, cousin, caregiver, provider and friend to many. More recently she was hailed as an optimist, fighter, survivor and now Victor over death. A lifelong resident of Helotes, her roots run deep in a community her family resided in since the 1860’s. While one may tend to focus on the way we leave this earth, we are in celebration of the way she lived. Never has a tale of strength and courage been more accounted for than by Lena ’s fight. While doctors initially told her she only had two months to live, her spirit, family support and faith in GOD escalated her to seven years longer than her prescribed expiration date. Lena’s story is similar to the ones we read about daily but what makes her loved ones and friends glow, is how she persevered and conquered all odds. Lena beat the statistics for cancer patients and her life is in part a tribute to the indomitable spirit of man. Lena, loved her children and grandchildren almost as much as she loved GOD. Her selfless dedication to her family is a reflection of what love is. A humble woman, her life was that of servitude and support for all those around her. She made career as a banker in Helotes but is regarded as an exceptional human being who defined the meaning of giving to others. Lena was the type of woman who believed in going till the end. Never wanting to rest or retire as a result of her active lifestyle, she persevered because of her will to continue to live each day to the fullest and not regard her circumstance as a handicap. Lena , as will be verified by all, is one of the toughest women that walked our earth in mind, spirit and body. It is these attributes that she passes along to all who were touched by her life. We would like to thank the Stone Oak Oncology team especially nurses Ladonna, Anita and Dr. Scott Ulmer amongst other nursing staff for the unequivocal care and hope they gave Lena and family. She is preceded in death by her brother Lawrence Morales, grandmother Matilde Morales and father Raul Q. Morales. She is survived by her mother Adelina Mena Morales, children Abram Alonso and his wife Michele Alonso and Adriane Gonzales and her husband Nicholas Gonzales, companion of 37 years Rudy Alonso and grandchildren Jude Alonso, Lana Alonso, Ava Alonso, (Baby Alonso on the way), Sarena Gonzales, Isaiah Gonzales and Giselle Gonzales, siblings Evangelina Morales, Yolanda Morales Sakr, Diane Carrillo, Viola Mendoza, Bernadette Ramon, and Raul Morales Jr. along with many nieces, nephews and a numerous cousins, friends and family in the Helotes area. She will never be forgotten and will live forever in our hearts and in our memories she will remain. Rosary will be held Tuesday January 8th at 7pm at Our Lady Guadalupe Church in Helotes, with visitation beginning at 5pm. Memorial Mass will be held January 9th at 10am at Our Lady Guadalupe Church in Helotes with burial proceeding at the Sisters of Cordian Marian at 11624 W FM 471 San Antonio, TX.

Lena was one of the sweetest persons I have had the chance to know in my life - we worked together for seven years at Helotes State Bank and she was always so upbeat and helpful to everyone. It was always fun to run into her at the Cornyval or the grocery store and catch up about everyone. I wish her family much strength during this time, but know she touched so many.

Every once in a lifetime we come across somone that is a true inspiration - for many Lena was one of these people as she was for me. I'll always have great memories of her smile, wit, and determination. You are gone but not forgotten.

What a wonderful lady we knew, loved and I was able to work with. She was always happy to see you when you walk into any door, at work or in her home. What a joyful spirit we will remember of her having. ---- Kim Kuentz Melchert

Chata, I have some of the most beautiful memories of you during our childhood while living with your family. You grew up to be a beautiful person inside and out. You will forever be missed in our family. I think of you as just being away for awhile and I pray that I will be lucky enough to see you again. My prayers are with your children and family. Lena and I went to elementary school in Helotes in the late 50's and early 60's when Helotes was a small farm/ranch community. Everyone was close back then.

I had not seen her until finding out that Abram, whose office suite is close to mine, told me that his mother was Lena.

About a year later, she took the time to visit me at my office. I was so happy to see her and felt so good that she had taken the time to see me!!

This again proved what a kind, considerate, and lovely person she was. Abram and Adriane have been blessed to have such a selfless mother.

My condolences,

My Tia Chata,
We weren't able to spend a whole lot of time together. I tried to walk down from mom's house to visit you when I could. However, I know that you loved me. I know that you were always looking out for my best interest especially when I was only a baby. When I would come to see you I was always greeted with a hug, asked how I was, and how my family was. You were a very special woman and I love you.
Your nephew,
