Al worked for civil service at Kelly AFB and retired from there in 1985, with 35 years of service. Following retirement, he worked for the San Antonio Ind. School Dist.
Al was also a life-time member of the Southwest Football Officials' Association and a member of the Credit Committee of the Southeast Community Credit Union for 8 years. Al was a 5th-generation Texan and a member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas.
He is survived by his daughters, Janis Scott and husband, Pat, and Judy Freeman and husband, Richard; sons, Al Gavegan, Jr. and wife, Trish and Gary Gavegan and wife, Donna; 4 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren; and his sister, Kay Riley.
