OBITUARY

Alan Peter Sanders

November 7, 2007January 17, 2013

Alan Peter Sanders, Age 5, of San Antonio, TX passed away on January 17, 2013. He was born in San Antonio to Harold and Judy Sanders and big brother Kevin Sanders on November 7, 2007. Alan attended preschool at Crown of Life and PPCD at Hardy Oak Elementary. Alan was diagnosed with a sarcoma at 17 months old in April 2009. Unfortunately, pediatric sarcomas are very rare and unique, so there wasn't a lot of research for the doctors to work with. Alan was treated at Methodist Children’s Hospital in San Antonio and MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital in Houston. After a roller coaster of successes and recurrences of the tumor, the family was told in September 2012 that there were no more treatment options left. The family was able to spend four months at home seizing every day, every memory, every laugh, smile, and cuddle before Alan passed away. Alan had a beautiful, fighting spirit who inspired many. He had a great love of numbers, letters, bubbles and monochromatic animals, especially Pandas. Through all of his challenges, he was always able to smile, laugh and blow kisses. He charmed everyone he met. Alan was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Kan Fat Chow. Alan is survived by his parents Harold and Judy Sanders and big brother, Kevin; maternal grandmother Kwai Ling Chow; paternal grandparents Henry and Helen Sanders; Uncle Peter Chow; Aunt Gloria Sanders; Uncle and Aunt Selwyn and Janet Lee; Uncle and Aunt Abdallah Jamal and Joys Chow; Cousins Jordan, Danika and Marika Lee; Cousins Faiz, Alim, Tajliya and Marjan Jamal.

A visitation service will be held on Friday, January 25 from 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Sunset North Funeral Home located at 910 North Loop 1604 East, 78232.

The church service will be held on Saturday, January 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Crown of Life Lutheran Church located at 19291 Stone Oak Parkway, 78258 with a reception immediately following at the same location.

The family has requested NO flowers. Instead, please consider donating to Alan's Pediatric Sarcoma Research Fund at MD Anderson (http://www.tinyurl.com/cancerstinks). Or to the Alan’s Angel’s team for St. Baldrick’s Foundation for pediatric cancer research (http://www.stbaldricks.org/teams/alansangels).

Judy & Harold
We are both so deeply saddened by the loss of your son. Distance and hurried lives have separated us over the years, and we suffer from never had the opportunity to meet your son. From all we've read, he was delight and refreshing spirit in the lives of all who did chance to know him. To be taken from you at such a young age makes our grief pale in comparison to the pain you are feeling, but we had to let you know that we are sharing in your loss. Take best of care of each other and your family,
Susan & HF Myers

Today was a day of mixed, yet extreme, emotions. The grief of saying goodbye to a 5 year old warrior is beyond words, but so are the feelings of being humbled, graced, and blessed by having Alan Sanders touch our lives. His parents described him as a "supernova," or a large star that shines brigher and has a much shorter life, but which ends its life with an expolosion and intensity that can exceed an entire galaxy of stars. In his very short life, Alan made more of an impact on this world than most of us can achieve in a lifetime. His legacy will continue and have ripple effects in a way that is hard to imagine. God bless our little angel, and a great thanks to his parents for sharing their blessing with the world.

Judy and Harold,
Thank you for sharing your sweet little boys with us here at Crown of Life Lutheran Preschool. I will always remember Alan coming down the hall with his big smile. Everyone loved him for his energy, his spunkiness, and his determination to live life to the fullest. We are thankful to know without a doubt that Alan is safely cuddling with Jesus in his loving arms. And, thankful that he is walking beside you to give you strength and comfort. Sending you our love and prayers from your friends at Crown of Life Lutheran Preschool

Alan was a very happy, bright & impressionable little boy. I remember seeing him for the first time at Dr. Patel's Christmas party in 2009. He was diagnosed with his cancer about the same time as my daughter. I am deeply sorry for your loss. May God give your family the strength and courage to help you through this time of sorrow.
