Albert Menchaca, a beacon of knowledge and kindness, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 69. Born on September 1, 1955, in Elgin, Illinois, Albert’s life was a testament to the power of education and service.
Albert was the beloved son of Maria Capetillo Menchaca and Esteban Menchaca, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his siblings Teresa Menchaca, Estella Menchaca, Gloria Jamie-Gonzales, Maria Peters, Irene Booth, Edward Menchaca, Steve Menchaca, and Celia Macedo, his daughter Angela Goerner, and his granddaughter Madison Fuston.
A lifelong learner and educator, Albert’s passion for knowledge was evident in his continuous pursuit of education. He studied Physics and Engineering at numerous colleges and universities throughout his life, embodying the essence of the phrase, “The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled,” a sentiment famously expressed by Plutarch. Albert’s academic journey was not just for personal growth; it was a path that led him to share his love for physics as a professor, enlightening the minds of countless students over the years.
Albert’s dedication to service was equally remarkable. He proudly served in the United States Air Force, a commitment that spoke to his character and his love for his country. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and as the 4th member of the Knights of Columbus, he exemplified the organization’s principles of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism.
Those who knew Albert were touched by his kind spirit and intelligence. He had a gentle way of imparting wisdom, always ready with a word of encouragement or a lesson to share. Albert’s life was one of spirited engagement with the world around him. His conversations were rich with insights, and his laughter was a melody that brought joy to any gathering. He was a man who not only sought to understand the mysteries of the universe but also to appreciate the simple pleasures of life. In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, “To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” Albert Menchaca lived by this creed, touching lives with his generosity, his intellect, and his unwavering kindness. He succeeded in making the world a better place, one student, one colleague, one family member at a time.
Rest in peace, Albert. Your journey was one of profound impact and enduring significance.
