Albert R. Orsinger departed this life on Friday, June 14, 2013. Albert was a native of San Antonio, where he graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, and where he met the love of his life, Jeanne French. Albert and Jeanne married in March of 1943, a marriage that lasted 69 years until Jeanne’s death in May of 2012. Albert served in the U.S. Army artillery during World War II, where he was stationed in Hawaii. That experience started a life-long attachment to Hawaii, which Albert and Jeanne visited frequently.
After the war ended, Albert earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Physics from the University of Texas at Austin. Albert and Jeanne moved to Dallas, where Albert worked selling scientific equipment used in oil and gas exploration. Albert moved to research at Texas Instruments, where he received a patent for devising a method for submerged submarines to locate other submerged submarines through triangulation using sonar. Albert eventually established his own business where he designed and manufactured test equipment used by the telephone industry as it moved from hard-wired connections to digital switching. After Albert retired, he and Jeanne moved from Dallas, their home of 40 years, back to San Antonio, where they rekindled their San Antonio relationships with old friends from high school and college. Albert and Jeanne joined the First Presbyterian Church, which had been Albert’s family’s church since his mother was a young girl. Albert was especially fond of his membership in San Antonio’s Conopus Club, which he served as President in 2000. Albert loved electronics his entire life, starting with the first crystal radio set he received as a boy. Albert played chess, loved solving puzzles of all sorts, and spent many hours playing board games with his family.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents Gunther and Mary Louise Deutsch Orsinger, his beloved wife, Jeanne, his brother, Charles, and sister-in-law, Sissy. Albert is survived by his son Richard, Albert’s grandson Stephen and his wife Ann, and great grandchildren Odysseus and Ariadne, as well as his nephew and nieces Ward, Gay and Jana.
Graveside services will be held at 10am on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Sunset Memorial Park, with Pastor Richard Lounsbery of First Presbyterian Church officiating. There will be a reception immediately following at Sunset Funeral Home. Friends are invited to both events.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the First Presbyterian Church in memory of Albert. The family would especially like to thank Lupe Mojica, who worked for Albert and Jeanne for more than a decade and who provided loving care to Albert in his later years. The family also thanks Albert’s care givers, Jason, José, and Lydia, for their assistance.
