His initial assignment was to Chateauroux Air Base, France, followed by assignments to Brooks AFB, Texas; Laughlin AFB, Texas; Naha AB, Okinawa where he supported the 51st Fighter Wing at the beginning of the Vietnam war; and Webb AFB, Laredo, Texas where he received specialized training in Supply. Al cross-trained into the medical illustrator field and was assigned to the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM) at Brooks AFB. Albert's military journey concluded at USAFSAM in January 1977. Following his retirement, he enjoyed a lengthy career, 20 years, as a civilian at USAFSAM and Wilford Hall, Lackland AFB.
Al was selected as a member of a small group of artists who traveled to the Pentagon to produce a mural of various Air Force aircraft. The mural is on the wall of the Directorate of Personnel auditorium (4th Floor, Corridor 3).
Al was an outstanding medical illustrator and excellent portrait artist. While at USAFSAM, he produced wonderful, funny caricatures that were sought out by military and civilian personnel.
Al had an Associate of Art Degree in Architectural Drafting from the San Antonio College and three prestigious Norman Rockwell artist classes in Ruidoso, New Mexico.
Al enjoyed taking Linda dancing, playing Bunco with friends, dining out and traveling. He also enjoyed his quiet time listening to music and sitting in front of a lit fireplace watching TV. He looked forward to and enjoyed spending time with family celebrating holidays and birthdays. Al possessed unwavering patience and compassion.
Al is forever in our hearts and will be greatly missed.
